Awesome and Unique Irish Souvenirs

Awesome and Unique Irish Souvenirs

If you're travelling to Ireland and looking for a cool souvenir to take home, Maktus is a brilliant Irish store for just that.
When I travel I always want to find something unusual and interesting to bring back, which is not always an easy task.  Last thing I want is to have my home filled with miniature Eiffel towers, British phone boxes and a 'I heart NYC' t-shirt.
While avoiding tacky mass produced souvenirs on my recent trip to Dublin I discovered Maktus.  Surprisingly enough for an Irish gift shop I didn't find a single leprechaun, sheep, shamrock, or shillelagh stick.  Instead I found awesome Irish gift ideas and alternative Irish souvenirs which were really different and super creative unlike the regular crap that's in some of the tourist shops on the high street.
The other cool thing about Maktus's unusual souvenirs is that they are designed by local young Irish artists whom were working away in their open studio upstairs.
When I looked around the shop I could see that it wasn't just full of tourists.  The store was also full of Irish buyers as the Maktus range of cool Irish gifts has a strong sense of what's relevant to Irish people unlike what you would find in a run-of-the-mill souvenir shop.

You'll notice that a lot of the art prints and coasters in their store are influenced by pop culture, sports stars, musicians and Irish sayings, there's a real sense of modern Ireland that you wont find in a traditional Irish gift shop.  Definitely check out Maktus in Dublin's George's Street arcade for affordable Irish gifts and tote bags, postcards, fridge magnets, t-shirts and mugs (the funny captions were hilarious).  Maktus has great souvenirs funny gifts and art prints at really good prices. I loved the Durtburds tote bag, the Dublin Map and the Gaelic football jerseys print.

While I was in Dublin it goes without saying that of course I got to sample a few of its world famous pubs. I hit up The Palace Bar, Grogans, Mulligans, The Long Hall and The Stags Head. In Maktus I found the coolest souvenir of my entire trip, a Dublin Pubs Scratch Map. A simple and novel idea where it directs you to the best 30 pubs of Dublin.  Once you've been to that pub you scratch off a foil covering to reveal a really cool illustration of a Dublin Pub. Stick us on another Guinness baby!
So if you're like me and don't necessarily look for traditional souvenirs but you want to find something cool to take home, then stopping off in Maktus is a must for alternative and creative souvenirs.
Maktus also has a website where you can buy the full range of unusual gifts and souvenirs, so you don't have to visit Dublin.
